Ok, so this post is coming after a little reflection period and remembering how much fun I used to have in my earlier twenties when I would just do shit on a whim without a second thought.
One time, a friend of mine texted me at midnight and said “call out of work tomorrow, drive to my house and let’s leave for the beach in a few hours”. We live about 4 hours from the ocean (shoot me), and it was only going to be a day trip, but I said “fuck it! let’s do it”.
Texted my boss from my sand covered beach towel complaining of food poisoning and thoroughly enjoyed sipping on my vodka concoction, while staring at the ocean.
Crazy spontaneous moment #2- my best friend texted me at 6am and said “let’s go on an adventure today”. We ended up deciding to go hiking at Crowder’s Mountain, got lost for 5 hours with no food or water, and almost fell off the side of a mountain when we ended up on the most advanced hiking trail.
#3- Arthur and I decided to drive 1 1/2 hours to Asheville on a whim at 1pm, only to come home at 7pm that night.
Good times, for sure.
It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut as you get older and you have to focus on adult things. You kinda lose that fun side of yourself. That side that looks at your $12 bank account & the stack of bills and it doesn’t even phase you.
I used to work at a bowling alley downtown and would take my tips (knowing I had rent coming up) and would still go out after work with my friends for drinks.
It’s fun living for the moment and not caring (well, you care, but you care more about having a good time), and that is amazing.
So, my tip to you- if you’ve gotten so caught up in the day to day of working, cleaning, gorery shopping, and doing other boring adult type crap, STOP. Stop and take a day to just go crazy and have some fun. Go see a play or a movie, go on a mini road trip, heck- play hookie from work and visit new places arunf the city you live in.
You have to remember to “live” every once in a while. Keeps you sane.
Alright, off watch movies and make a fire.
