So this past weekend I went to my new favorite town, Asheville, NC. I can’t even say enough good things about this cute little artsy hippie city in the mountains. Everyone is so chill and friendly and laid back- it’s like a modern day Pleasantville. It’s its own little world of awesomeness. Bars, restaurants, festivals, and a ton of shops where you can buy stuff you didn’t even know you needed. If Asheville was a person, I would marry it- like yesterday (sorry Arthur, but it’s true).
We went up because my friend was going to the Winter Warmer which is a HUGE beer festival, tons of beer samples and catered food. Basically a giant alcohol filled room where people can get wasted for $50. Heaven. We should’ve gone, but didn’t. Next year for sure.
Anyway, so we started out at The Thirsty Monk, which is this little hole in the wall bar that has this “dungeon” bar below the main one. Legit feels like medieval times. It even smells like a dungeon. Crazy. Next Tupelo Honey- an Asheville staple, followed for some- get ready to die- Appalachian egg rolls. Basically its pulled pork tossed in jalapeño BBQ sauce with carrots and onions. COULD LIVE OFF THOSE. Seriously. And got their homemade pimento cheese. Dip those egg rolls in that cheese and you will want to curl up and live in that bowl of food. Not really, but yes.
OH, and their rosemary peach lemonade, soooooooo good. I’ll be making a batch of my own asap.
Asheville Brewery had hands down, some of THE best pizza I’ve ever had. I probably needed at least 4 extra stomachs and 5 extra days up there so I could eat everything on the menu.
Can’t wait for my next Asheville adventure. We seriously drank way too much but had a ton of fun. Our hangover cure included room service, and a trip to Carmel’s Restaurant. Bloodies, burgers, and biscuits and gravy. Nom nom nom. The drive home seriously sucked as did the 2 days that followed (I’ve discovered I can’t hang like I could when I was 21. Getting older sucks), so better planning on our part, i.e. longer stay and no drinking the night before we leave, will be a definite.
Anyone else have any amazing adventures in cool towns?!
Off to bed, like the old woman I’ve clearly become. TGIF (in 3.5 hours)
