Call me old, but ever since I hit (and passed) 25, going out to a bar or a club and dealing with people is just not my idea of an enjoyable night. I hate when random strangers lean across me to get a drink at the bar and I’d rather spend time getting ready, so I can go out to a quiet restaurant with old people.
I just made myself sound insanely boring. I know.
Don’t get me wrong, every now and again, I still like an excuse to put on a spicy outfit and go downtown, but I mainly prefer to be in my pj’s, sitting on the couch, having Arthur make all my drinks. (Perks of dating a bartender).
I’ve mastered how to have a fun night in, so I figured that for anyone else like me (I really hope there’s people who feel the same), I would share some of my tips on how to have a fun night in, on the biggest holiday of the year.
+ Get a SHIT ton of junk food and make yourself a nice little spread
on the coffee table. Seriously, your healthy eating can start on Monday. Splurge and shovel
as much ice cream and pizza into your face as possible.
+ Get some speakers, load your favorite playlist on your phone, and have a dance party in your living room. And hey, this way you don’t have to share the dance floor, no one is judging you
for your lack of rhythm, and there’s no drinks spilling on your brand new dress.
+ Bust out the board games. I always watch the pre-ball drop festivities, so
board games are the only other thing you can really do in between
performances and waiting for the final countdown. We love love Monopoly, checkers,
cards, whatever. If there’s more than 2 of you, invest in CatchPhrase, Cards Against Humanity, or Cranium. Mix all that with booze, and you have an amazing night.
+ BOOZE IT UP. You’re home, there’s no driving anywhere, so have some fun. Do some shots,
make some cocktails, drink a beer… Whatever. You can worry about your
hangover Sunday, OR just drink a glass of a water for every drink you
have to lessen the hangover that will follow. (Yummy NYE boozy sips here and here)
+ This one is optional, but I think it’s kind of fun. Reflect on the things
you enjoyed and accomplished in 2016, and what you want to accomplish in 2017.
Write them all down, and enjoy checking them off your list throughout the year as
you get them done.
Let me know what else I need to add to my list! Arthur’s little brother will be in town (shit is going to get crazy), and it’s just the 3 of us Saturday night, so anything else we can do to have a fun night is welcome.
