Hello Hello! Happy Friday!
Crazy excited because today I am finally launching a new series I have been working on for months!
The Monthly Dish will be a new Q & A feature where I get branding and business tips from some people who are absolutely killing it. Each month a new chick or guy will share their tricks to building a brand, business, or blog, and just motivate you to get off your butt and do something you love.
Lauryn Evarts is the creator of my favorite blog, The Skinny Confidential. She’s managed to completely build a business from the ground up and has worked her ass off to get there. TSC is now a blog, book, and App, and Lauryn has launched a workout and recipe ebook, Podcast with her Fiancé, and is working on a product line.
I got her to dish on her tips to stay focused, create a cohesive flow for your biz, and how to stay true to yourself in a world of people trying to do the same thing.
|| Hi hi hi! Please introduce yourself! ||
Hi! I’m Lauryn, founder of The Skinny Confidential, a lifestyle blog featuring a range of topics from health, to wellness, to beauty, style, & home decor. You’ll also find us discussing some pretty taboo subjects. Think camel toes, boob jobs, & botox. The Skinny Confidential is a community because honestly, the readers share some tips too! TSC started as a blog, but since then it’s grown into a book, YouTube channel, fitness eBook, & meal plan. Also, my fiance & I host a podcast called The Skinny Confidential HIM & HER on PodcastOne.
|| You’ve been a blogger/business owner for 6 years now and are absolutely killing it! What advice/things have you learned that have helped you the most to get you where you are today? ||
Be patient, be yourself at all times, & be consistent. The business of blogging takes time, more time than you think. If you try to copy other people you won’t gain a loyal following. Be authentic to who you are & chip away every single day. You will gain a following if you just take your time. It’s a long game.
|| What tips do you have for aspiring bloggers/business owners ||
Stay in your own lane. Don’t compare yourself to other people & don’t listen to the industry trends when it comes to your content. Focus on what interests you, and use the tools available in the industry to promote your content. It takes working at it every day for years to build a following.
|| You have so much going on! You’re an author, you just launched your workout guide, you and your adorable fiancé have a Podcast, you have a blog design business, how do you manage to balance it all and stay focused without getting overwhelmed? ||
Honestly, it’s a lot. I have to remind myself to take breaks. My team is AMAZING. You really learn to prioritize & focus on what matters most. I also use a ton of tricks to increase productivity & efficiency. I time block, avoid long drawn out meetings like the plague, & limit my social time to family & close friends.
|| You are a Branding Queen! Everything about TSC is cohesive and flows. Would you share a few tips on branding for newbies? ||
It’s easy to stay branded when you’ve clearly defined your brand. Make a mood board, collect things that inspire you & reflect the brand image you want to portray. If you do this, you will have no problem recognizing & creating brand aligned content.
|| Being your own boss, finding your passion, and building an empire has become more popular lately among people. What would you say someone wanting to do those things should focus on/plan first in order to build a successful brand/business? ||
Have your end goal in mind, and constantly ask yourself if what you’re doing today is getting you closer to that goal. You should always be working towards your end goal, EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Also, become an expert in your industry. Try to learn everything you can about your passion. It’s easy to build something if you’re an expert on it.
|| You have the TSC blog, TSC App, Him and Her Podcast, Bombshell Body Guide, Blog-Doo (a blog design company), The Skinny Confidential Book. What’s next project wise for The Skinny Confidential? ||
I recently launched TSC 7 DAY MEAL PLAN. Basically I wrote down EXACTLY what I eat in a week to get ready for wedding. It’s super easy, nothing fancy, mostly 2-10 minute recipes. There’s also a grocery list so you know EXACTLY what to buy at the store. I am also working on a TSC PRODUCT, which I’m really excited about. COMING SOON!
